For Immediate Release

Remembering Shelley Finson

February 4, 2008: Eric Beresford, President of Atlantic School of Theology, issued the following statement
It is with deep sadness that we received today news of the death of former faculty member, Shelley Finson. Shelley had a profound influence on the life of AST and beyond. She was key figure in the movement for Christian Feminism in Canada. As a teacher, a writer, and an activist she challenged us with her passion for justice and her commitment to a world in which the fullness of God’s just and loving purposes could be known by and available for all.

Shelley came to Atlantic School of Theology after serving as Director of Field Education at the Centre for Christian Studies from 1978 to 1985 when she became Professor of Pastoral Theology here at AST. After her retirement in 2001 she continued to work to re-shape the church and world through her writing, her involvement with committees of the church, both regional and national, and through her activism.

Our condolences and prayers go especially at this time to her partner Diane Tingley. Shelley will be greatly missed by the many whose lives she touched and influenced.

A full obituary will be published shortly in the press and on Shelley and Diane’s blog at http://journey-shelley.blogspot.com. The blog will also provide information concerning funeral arrangements once these are finalized.
