AST Leadership Learning
Frequently Asked Questions

How do you define ‘leader’?

We see leaders as people who are eager to become more conscious of their impact in the world, whether in the business world, in the community, at home or in the church. We believe leadership is not connected to title or position; it is about a willingness to look critically at our own beliefs and values to understand how we can step more fully into our authentic leadership and connect meaningfully with others to create a more just, compassionate and sustainable world.

Is the Leadership Learning programming faith based?

As an ecumenical university that welcomes all people and perspectives, AST has been developing leaders for ministry for 50 years. We believe there is now an opportunity to expand our mission and support faithful and effective leaders from all walks to life, drawing on our history and experience in fostering a depth of wisdom in the intersecting knowledge areas of self, other, our world and the infinite – however that is understood by each individual. This work is not based in a particular faith but on the belief that we are all connected to one another.

Is the Leadership Learning initiative part of a degree or diploma?

Over the next year or two, we are in an experimental phase, piloting a variety of workshops and events to understand what is most meaningful and valuable for our participants. All of these programs are open to anyone and are not connected to a degree, diploma or certificate. Once we learn from our experimental phase, we will determine the particular nature of the program.

Do you offer overnight accommodation for various workshops?

We do have limited accommodation available for workshop participants. For availability and costs, please contact our Residence Manager, Bobbi Zahra at bzahra@astheology.ns.ca.
