Library Services for Alumni

ATLASerials (ATLAS) Religion Collection

The AST Library offers AST alumni access to the ATLASerials (ATLAS) Religion Collection. ATLAS is an online collection of major religion and theology journals selected by leading religion scholars and theologians. Users can read articles or research the history of a topic from as early as 1908 to the present. Currently, researchers are able to use ATLAS as a search tool to retrieve images of the pages in more than one hundred fifty different journals. For a complete title list, visit the ATLAS website.

To access ATLASerials, visit the Databases page on the AST Library website.

A login is required to access this database. Please contact Hilary Skov-Nielsen, Instruction and Outreach Librarian, to obtain the username and password. (902) 420-1669

RefWorks Access

RefWorks is a web-based citation manager that allows you to compile, edit and format bibliographies by importing references directly from online databases, library catalogues, text files, or by entering them manually. RefWorks is free for students, faculty, staff and alumni of the AST Library.

  • Import citations directly from most AST Library databases (see Copying Citations to RefWorks)
  • Store these citations for future use
  • Automatically format a bibliography or reference list using output styles such as APA, MLA, and Chicago

For more information about RefWorks, visit the Refworks page on the AST Library Website

AST alumni can receive an alumni library card, which grants Novanet borrowing privileges, at no charge. The card must be renewed annually. Please contact Hilary Skov-Nielsen, Instruction and Outreach Librarian to register for a card. (902) 420-1669.

BARA- Borrow Anywhere Return Anywhere

Borrow Anywhere, Return Anywhere (BARA) is a Libraries Nova Scotia initiative that provides Nova Scotia residents with the opportunity to borrow from over a hundred libraries across the province, including public, community college and university libraries. As an AST Alumni library card holder we invite you to take advantage of these added library services:

You can return AST Library materials to any participating college, university, or public library in Nova Scotia. For a complete list of participating libraries, please visit the Libraries Nova Scotia website: http://librariesns.ca/

You may also return library materials from public libraries and/or other university or college libraries in Nova Scotia to the AST Library.

Interlibrary Loan

Your alumni library card does not grant you interlibrary loan privileges but you can request books from the AST Library, and participating Novanet Libraries, at your local public library with a valid public library card. Please contact your local library for details.

Open Access Journals

The AST Library provides alumni access to the ATLASerials Religion Collection but other resources are freely available online, searchable by anyone. Open access (OA) is the free, online availability of scholarly journal articles, including peer-reviewed materials, and primarily in reference to those which authors publish without expectation of payment.

For more information about available open access resources, please visit the Open Access subject guide on the library website.
