Full-Time Teaching Position in Pastoral Theology
Atlantic School of Theology (AST) announces a tenure-track position in Pastoral Theology at the rank of Assistant Professor, or junior Associate Professor, beginning September 1 2008. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in the area of pastoral theology or be near the completion of such a degree. In addition to Academic qualification the Candidate should have applied experience and competence in the areas of congregational theory, and spirituality, with demonstrated skills in qualitative research methodologies and research ethics.
Candidates will be in good standing with their own denomination. Candidates will have an appreciation of the challenges facing theological education today, and be well prepared to teach and participate in an ecumenical environment, with particular awareness of Roman Catholic, Anglican, and United Church communities. She or he will evidence capacity and promise as both a teacher and a researcher.
Position Description
Teaching responsibilities will fall primarily in the area of Pastoral Theology. The person will also share responsibilities for the field education programme and for teaching qualitative and research ethics skills. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: educational theory, congregational theory, worship, and mission. The Candidate will be expected to contribute to the community life of one of the founding denominations and to engage other denominational traditions with respect and informed appreciation, as well as to participate in the wider life of the School. Teaching in the summer school and/or via the internet will be expected on a rotational basis. The successful applicant may participate in joint academic programming with Saint Mary’s University.
About Atlantic School of Theology
AST is an integrated tri-denominational and ecumenical school of theology and Christian ministry accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. It was founded in 1971 by the Divinity Faculty of the University of King’s College (Anglican Church of Canada), Holy Heart Theological Seminary (The Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of Halifax), and Pine Hill Divinity Hall (United Church of Canada). AST is affiliated with Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. The school offers the degrees of Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies, as well as Certificates in Theology, and a joint MA in Religious Studies and Theology with Saint Mary’s University.
