Duration of Position

Summer position starting June 11, 2018 and ending July 27th, 2018.

Summary of Position

The Library Circulation & Inventory Assistant checks library materials in and out at the Circulation Desk; helps patrons find and access print and electronic resources; and answers and redirects telephone calls. Library Circulation & Inventory Assistant will also participate in a collection inventory project of the library’s Circulating Collection as well as a photograph scanning project.

This is a 30 hrs/wk. term position

Position Description (includes but not limited to)

  • Circulation Services Responsibilities

1. Works an average of 12 hrs/wk. on the Circulation desk
2. Answers basic reference questions and patron enquiries
3. Loans out library materials and processes returns using Aleph our Integrated Library System
4. Registers new patrons in Aleph

  • Inventory Responsibilities

1. Compare shelf lists against materials on the shelf of the Circulating Collection
2. Check materials process status in Aleph

  •  Photo Scanning Responsibilities:

1. Collects and scans photos in appropriate digital formats
2. Uploads files to online photo storage platform

  • Daily Operations Responsibilities:

1. Assists in opening and closing of library
2. Answers Circulation and Reference Desk phones
3. Processes cash transactions

 Position Qualifications

  • Completed or enrolled in post-secondary studies
  • Experience working in a library
  • Experience searching online library catalogues and journal databases
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills
