Academic Dean's Welcome

Welcome to our website. I trust that you find it an informative place to visit. We hope the information provided will help you make decisions about the programs and courses that might deepen your knowledge and broaden your faith. Atlantic School of Theology (AST) has evolved into an extremely dynamic community in recent years. The Faculty and Administration have worked creatively and courageously to make our School both an actual and virtual learning experience. And on occasion, students can encounter both realities within the context of one course. We have a vibrant on-campus academic life as well as a variety of Internet offerings. AST offers three robust terms; a very focused and intense summer term, a fall term and a winter term. (It could also be argued, that given our support of clinical pastoral education, AST also offers a “spring term.”)

As the Academic Dean, I am excited about the talent of our Faculty. All of our full-time and part-time professors are academically gifted. Moreover, my sense is that you will also encounter their spirituality, humanity and creativity, all of which will enhance your learning experience.

The curriculum attends to the needs of the church and the world not just in the present, but into the future. We believe that great leaders know their theology, understand how to work with scripture, have a grounding in ethics, and have a sense of the internal forces that direct their lives and professional maturation.

Ministry, the study of theology, and a deepening understanding of God are not for the faint-hearted. Students are invited to push themselves, to explore, to question, and to question yet again. We, as a school are committed to journey with you whether you are with us for one course or two degrees. Enjoy.

Yours in Christ,
Jody Clarke
