AST Invites Applications for Northern Lights Scholarship

For academic year 2020-21, Atlantic School of Theology (Halifax, Nova Scotia) offers one full-tuition merit scholarship to a resident of the United States of America enrolled in the Master of Divinity program. The successful recipient will have an outstanding prior academic record and demonstrated promise for pastoral leadership. Students already enrolled at AST are not eligible for this award.


The value of the Northern Lights Scholarship is equivalent to full-time tuition for an international student (up to $14,440). The scholarship is granted for the first year of studies, and is renewable annually on the basis of continuing strong academic results (B+ average or higher). The scholarship may be used only to offset tuition fees at Atlantic School of Theology.

Application Process

Applicants for the Northern Lights Scholarship must also apply for the Master of Divinity program at Atlantic School of Theology. Both the 3-year campus-based M.Div. program and the 5-year Summer Distance M.Div. program are eligible. In addition to a completed M.Div. application, applicants must send the following in one email to the Office of the Registrar at AST (

1.  A curriculm vitae (PDF format)

2.  A letter (PDF format) that includes the following:

- Areas of the applicant’s academic strength
- Highlights of the applicant’s previous leadership experience
- The names and positions of two referees from whom the applicant has requested letters of support. One
   referee’s letter must be from a professor describing the applicant’s academic ability, and one letter must
   be from a person who can describe the applicant’s promise for pastoral leadership. The referees must
   send their letters of support directly to the Office of the Registrar by email not later than May 1, 2020.
