Borrowing Library Materials
A current AST ID card is required to borrow library materials. The loan period for faculty is one academic term. Due dates by term:
- Fall: January 31
- Winter/Summer: September 30
Library cards expire on September 30 of each year. Please visit the Circulation Desk at the AST Library to renew your card.
Borrowing from other libraries
Faculty may borrow materials from other Novanet libraries with a current AST ID card. Please see the list of list of participating Novanet libraries.
Access to e-resources at other Novanet libraries is restricted to faculty and students at their respective institutions. To access e-resources at other Novanet libraries you will need to visit the library in person. To request a copy of an article from an online journal or research database at another Novanet library, please refer to the Document Delivery section for instructions.
The library offers free interlibrary loan service to faculty to obtain material from outside of Novanet for their research. This applies to both book and copy requests. Please follow the link for details: AST Interlibrary Loans

Faculty may request to have material placed on 2 hour reserve status for course use.
AST or Novanet owned books may be requested by contacting Kathy Stay (423-0111, email@example.com). Please provide both the title and call number of the items you are requesting (i.e. The Study of Liturgy, BV 176 S76 1992) as well as the course name, course number and the name of the instructor. Photocopies can be dropped off at the circulation desk or put in the library mailbox.
The AST Library offers library instruction sessions in your class, to highlight library resources and instruct students on how to use resources that they may find useful to help them complete their assignments. The library offers in-class sessions on a variety topics, including:
- How to create a search strategy
- Searching Novanet
- Searching the research databases
- Citing in Chicago Style
- Critical and Analytical thinking
If you have another topic in mind, we can develop an instruction session around a specific assignment or class.

Sessions are typically 45 minutes to an hour in length and can cover one or more of the topics mentioned above. A minimum of one week advance notice is required for in-class instruction.

Recommending Library Materials
Faculty may recommend library materials they would like the library to acquire to support their courses. Please contact Lloyd Melanson, Acquisitions Librarian, to submit a recommendation for purchase. (496-7950, firstname.lastname@example.org)
Using The Pine Hill Room and its Collections
The library’s rare book room is open to faculty, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, for research or class demonstrations and tours. Food and drink are not permitted inside the rare book room. Please contact Robert Martel to schedule an appointment. (496-7948, email@example.com)
Off-Campus access to e-resources at AST
Off-campus access to the AST Library’s research databases and other e-resources is available to AST faculty. When accessing library resources from off-campus you will be required to enter the barcode on your AST ID card and your password (last four-digits of the phone number you have on file in your library account). Please contact the Circulation Desk (423-7986) or Robert Martel, Library Chair (496-7948), if you experience difficulties logging in.
The AST Library does not provide training or technical assistance for Blackboard.
