Novanet Express and Hold Requests

Novanet Express.

This is a document delivery service between Novanet libraries. Use it to send a circulating book from one Novanet library to your library. Copies of journal articles or chapters or essays in books can also be sent or even faxed to your home. Delivery takes up to 3 business days and it is free!  This service is available to registered students, faculty, and staff of Novanet libraries and to patrons with full-system Novanet library cards. Copyright conditions do apply.

Hold Requests.

These put you next in line for items which are currently signed out. The only available pickup location is the owning library itself. It cannot be set to another library. There is no fee for putting a book on hold. Otherwise, the steps are the same as for Novanet Express.

How to use.

Search the Novanet Catalogue for the item you want to read.

Click on the location of the copy you want,

Click on the library you want to borrow from.

or click on the title, then scroll down to Library Holdings, and chose a library.

Click the library from which you want to borrow.

Click on “Place a hold or request a loan” to request the book. To order an article from a journal or an essay or chapter from a book, click on “Request a Photocopy”. Normal copyright restrictions apply.

Note: If the item is signed out, you can only place a hold on it. The item will be held for you at the owning library for a few days when the current borrower returns the item.

Unless you have already done so, you will be asked to login to your Novanet account. Enter your library card's 14 digit barcode number and your password. Then click on the "Go" icon.  Remember to logout when you are finished on Novanet.

For Novanet Express / Hold …

To request books or videos, a screen will appear asking to what library you want the book delivered. Click on the “Go” icon when you select your library.

 

Choose a pickup library.

For Novanet Express / Photocopies…

For photocopies a screen will you which library to send the photocopy to.

The fields marked with a red * are mandatory. Fill in the article’s title, page numbers, volume, issue and year.

Enter title, author, and so on.

If you want the photocopy delivered by fax, enter the fax # in the relevant window without spaces or dashes in the number.

Note: copyright guidelines prohibit copying entire books or journals. The rule of thumb is one essay or article per book or journal issue.

Pick up your item at the Circulation Desk of your library on or after the 3rd business day. Borrowed items can be returned to any Novanet Library.
