Atlantic School of Theology Welcomes New Faculty Member

Halifax, NS -- The Rev. Canon Eric Beresford, President, and Board of Governors of Atlantic School of Theology (AST), are pleased to announce the appointment of The Rev. Dr. Robert C. Fennell as Assistant Professor, Syst
ematic and Historical Theology, (United Church of Canada) effective August 1, 2006.

Dr. Fennell holds a Doctorate of Theology from Victoria University in the University of Toronto, a Master of Letters from the University of St. Andrew’s (School of Divinity), Scotland, and a Master of Divinity from Emmanuel College in the Toronto School of Theology. He has held a variety of positions in both church and academy and is currently Minister of Worship and Development at Forest Hill United Church, Kitchener, Ontario.

He is the editor of a forthcoming special edition of the Toronto Journal of Theology entitled Love and Freedom: Essays in Honour of Harold G. Wells, co-edited with David Zub. He was the editor of A Guide to New and Renewed Worship (2000) Toronto, The United Church of Canada.


He has won numerous research grants, awards and honours including the Russell Graduate Fellowship (2003), Ontario Graduate Scholarship (2001), and the Sanford Gold Medal in Divinity (1994).

President Beresford says that “Dr. Fennell brings significant academic gifts and both experience in and passion for the church’s ministry. He will be an excellent addition to our faculty at Atlantic School of Theology. Faculty, students and staff are looking forward to having Dr. Fennell join us as a United Church member of our ecumenical team.”
