New Mission Statement

Following a wide process of consultation, Atlantic School of Theology (AST) announces a change to its mission statement that will more clearly define the school’s continuing mission toward excellence in theological education. The Board of Governors of AST are pleased to endorse the following new mission statement:

“Atlantic School of Theology, an ecumenical university serving Christ’s mission, cultivates excellence in graduate-level theological education and research, creative and faithful formation for lay and ordained ministries, and understanding among communities of faith.”

The Rev. Canon Eric Beresford, President of AST, says, “I am delighted by this process that was initiated by our Board of Governors and brought wide ranging contributions from faculty, staff, students, alumnae and friends.  The revised mission statement is a good and concise summary of what it is that we are about at Atlantic School of Theology. It will serve as a guide for ongoing development in all aspects of our life and work.”

Atlantic School of Theology was founded in 1971 by Anglican (University of King’s College), Roman Catholic (Holy Heart Seminary) and United Church of Canada (Pine Hill Divinity Hall) partners.  AST offers courses at the Masters and Certificate levels, in the classroom and at a distance via Internet.
