Worship At AST

Planning Guidelines for Daily Worship | Lectionary Resources for Worship

Worship is the beating heart of the community that is AST.

Our shared worship life is designed to nurture a rich sense of identity rooted in Christian community.  Worship at AST has three components:

1.  Daily chapel services take place at 11:45 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. With the exception of Thursdays, these worship events last about 15-20 minutes.

2.  On Thursdays, a longer liturgy takes place, with a full homily, beginning at 11:45 a.m. and concluding by 12:30 p.m.

3.  On Wednesdays, denominational Formation groups meet for their own worship celebrations, at differing times.

On Thursdays in the Fall term, the President, the Dean, the Faculty, part-time instructors, alumni/ae, and other invited guests preach the homilies.  In the Winter term, senior students take a turn to preach.

Community Lunch on Thursdays takes place at 12:30 p.m. in the Columba Dining Room (in the main residence building).  All are invited to share in this time of fellowship, as we celebrate Community Day every Thursday.

If you are a member of the AST community, please do commit yourself to attend Thursday worship at AST, and other days as you are able.

If you are a guest or visitor, please know that you are warmly invited to share in worship with the AST community on any weekday.

Worship orients our hearts, minds, and lives toward God. When we worship at AST, we recognize the importance of community worship as a cornerstone of our life together. Our communal life is tremendously enriched when we gather. Do join us.

The students of the Worship Foundations course are given a week or two to plan and direct the community worship as part of their study.

Members of individual denominations are encouraged to bring in compatible (ecumenical) worship programs to enrich the spirituality of the community life and prayer. For example, in past years there has been a student-planned and -led Blue Christmas service which was well received and attended.

In the summer term, chapel worship takes place each morning at 8:30 a.m.
