Take Heart

MULTI-MEDIA EXHIBITION

Photography / Stained Glass / Ceramics / Pottery / Painting

But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27)
In these challenging times, can heart images, both natural and created by human hand, remind us of God’s love and faithfulness?

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

NANCY ROBERTS is a ceramic sculptor whose varied, quirky work appears in juried fine art shows and galleries in Nova Scotia and increasingly in the northeastern United States.

SHAUNA MACLEOD graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Ceramics from NSCAD in 2011 and started Black Crow Pottery in Dartmouth. She has participated in numerous juried group exhibitions throughout the country as well as selling her production wares in select galleries and juried craft shows. She produced her first solo exhibition at NSCAD in 2010 and had her premiere solo exhibition at a commercial gallery in 2014.

LYNETTE RICHARDS is a Fine Artist who creates original glass art for clients and galleries. She is a Master Artisan, NSDCC, with 20 years professional stained glass experience. Her public art is permanently installed in schools, universities, libraries, and archives. She has extensive restoration experience of architectural stained glass including hundreds of the finest church windows in Canada. Lynette uses darkness and light to explore humanity's evolving sacred stories.

SARAH DOHERTY is a 17-year-old Dartmouth native who has been drawing for five years. She began drawing hearts when her brother had a serious heart operation three years ago. She has recently branched out into brains and other anatomical images. Her work takes objective anatomical images and imbues them with an emotional subjectivity.

SARA JEWEL is a writer, photographer, and lay worship leader who lives in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. She began collecting photographs of hearts, as well as heart-shaped objects, in 2013 after writing a column about heart-shaped deer hoof prints.

A graduate of AST (2004), CATHERINE MACDONALD was introduced to photography as a spiritual practice and has been captivated by how the sacred is made evident through the lens of her camera. Catherine is in ministry with the Elmsdale Pastoral Charge.
