Generous Donation Allows AST's DNE Program to Expand

June 9, 2022

Thanks to generous support from the Estate of Patrick Power, AST is expanding its Diploma in the New Evangelization (DNE) program and increasing its impact over a broader area.

The program began in 2014 and was designed for Catholics in the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth who wanted to learn more about their faith and how to live faithfully in today’s modern society. Catholics of all ages, from many walks of life, are learning how to speak of their faith in coherent, intelligent ways that bridge the gap between the traditional catholic vision and the wider, often critical, secular world. Quite simply, they are making a difference in the lives of those around them, from their families and friends, to their parishes and communities. This is good news for the Catholic church in our local Archdiocese.

The rise in popularity of online learning, combined with an already successful program, puts AST in a unique position to expand its reach outside the Halifax area. With the help of the Estate of Patrick Power, we can offer the kind of education that helps more people to develop a deeper understanding of their faith and prepares them to be able share their knowledge with others. And this is great news for the Catholic Church on a national and international level.

The Estate of Patrick Power recently pledged $315,000 in support over the next five years, on top of the $175,000 they have contributed to the DNE program thus far. AST thanks the trustees of the estate for their confidence in its educational programming and looks forward to working with them to build a dynamic hub for catholic education that will impact this region and beyond.
