Recruitment Coordinator
Location: Halifax, N.S.; hybrid work arrangements may be available.
Position Type: Three-year contract (renewable), Part-Time (0.5 FTE)

Remuneration: $24,000 – $26,000 annually (Administrative Level 3), prorated for 0.5 FTE, plus comprehensive benefits

Position Summary
The Recruitment Coordinator takes a resourceful, hands-on approach to increasing awareness of and enrollment in AST’s academic programs. Reporting to the President and working closely with the rest of the Advancement team, this role offers high day-to-day flexibility and autonomy—ideal for a self-motivated professional who enjoys connecting with people, managing relationships, and identifying creative outreach opportunities on a manageable, part-time schedule.
The successful candidate is a proactive, results-oriented professional who is motivated by enrollment growth, relationship-building, and helping prospective students discover how AST's programs can support their educational, vocational, spiritual, and professional goals.
What Success Looks Like in Year 1
Own the Pipeline: Proactively build, manage, and nurture a qualified lead pipeline from inquiry through to application.
Build Key Connections and Expand Horizons: Identify and nurture connections with regional churches, community groups, and educational partners to widen AST’s reach.
Drive Engagement: Plan and run effective, welcoming virtual or in-person information sessions.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment and Enrollment Growth
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to increase applications and enrollment across AST's degree, diploma, certificate, and continuing education programs.
- Proactively build and manage a pipeline of prospective students through targeted outreach, cold contacting, networking, church visits, and ongoing relationship cultivation.
- Represent AST at conferences, educational fairs, church gatherings, leadership events, webinars, and recruitment activities.
- Identify and pursue opportunities within churches, denominations, community organizations, educational institutions, professional associations, and workplace settings.
- Establish recruitment goals and contribute to enrollment growth and student diversification efforts.
Identify external events (e.g., conferences and meetings) for potential sponsorship by the Advancement team to secure an AST presence and coordinate related sponsorship activities.
Student Engagement and Relationship Development
- Proactively engage prospective students, providing prompt, welcoming, and thorough follow-up at every stage of their inquiry.
- Guide prospective students through the exploration, application, and admission process, maintaining consistent follow-up, and connect prospective students with faculty, staff, alumni, and current students as appropriate.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with denominational leaders, clergy, community organizations, educational institutions, and professional networks, identifying upcoming key events and outreach opportunities.
- Mobilize and equip students, alumni, faculty, and volunteers to facilitate an AST presence at events and within networks.
- Expand AST's visibility among leaders and professionals in sectors such as education, healthcare, social services, government, business, and the non-profit sector.
Financial and Resource Management
- Make intelligent, budget-conscious decisions regarding the most effective use of recruitment and travel funds, tracking all expenditures to maximize the impact of available resources.
Marketing and Communications
- Collaborate with communications staff to develop and implement recruitment marketing strategies, including recruitment materials, promotional campaigns, digital content, and storytelling initiatives.
- Support the promotion of recruitment events, information sessions, and special initiatives through digital and print communications.
- Monitor recruitment and engagement trends and contribute insights that strengthen future recruitment and communications efforts. Record progress and provide lead-lag measure reports to the President and the Board of Governors.
- Other duties to support the overall work of the Advancement team and the university.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
- An undergraduate degree.
- Three to five years of experience in student recruitment, admissions, enrollment management, marketing, sales, fundraising, or related fields.
- Demonstrated success in achieving recruitment, enrollment, fundraising, sales, or organizational growth objectives.
- Experience collaborating on communications, marketing, social media, or digital engagement initiatives.
- Exceptional interpersonal, networking, and relationship-building skills.
- Outstanding oral, written, and presentation communication skills. Demonstrated ability in the use of the full Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally; a valid passport is required.
- Experience working effectively in ecumenical, multi-faith, and cross-cultural settings. Lived experience in one of AST’s founding traditions and the Christian faith is a significant asset.
- The maturity, integrity, diplomacy, and collaborative spirit required to thrive in a theological university environment.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, set self-directed targets, and drive results with minimal supervision.
